APPLYING TO THE USMC OFFICER PROGRAM

Those prospects, interested in the Marine Corps Officer Program, who have been screened by the Officer Selection Team will be given a rough application to complete. The rough application consists of important personal data used to compile a "book" which is forwarded to the Officer Selection Board for evaluation and selection to OCS.

Only those most qualified are selected and given the opportunity to attend Officer Candidates School in Quantico, VA.

There have been many questions on how to complete the application. Here's some guidance on how to knock it out and get it back to us in a timely manner. Remember, this is your application. Your ability to get it done, in an expeditious manner, is part of the evaluation process and will be noted to the selection committee.

So, show us how good you really are.

Applications are available through our office and this webpage.

  • Fill out the information on all the references you intend to use
  • If you hand deliver your reference letters, please line it out and note it on the form.
  • If you desire to have us mail a self-addressed stamped envelope to your reference, leave it alone.
  • The Dean of Student's reference letter goes to the Dean of Student Affairs - The departmnt that handles non-academic disciplinary records at your school. It has a statement on the front of the sheet that makes it different than the other reference letters. "I authorize release of my non-academic disciplinary record to the U.S. Marine Corps Officer Program." Please sign and date before you take it to the Dean's office. Don't leave without it!!
  • Same with the professors - you need 2 reference letters from your professors. Have them fill it out on the spot and hand back to you. Should take 5 minutes, if that.
  • One goes to a past or present employer and one goes to an "other". Some suggestions are: family friends who are doctors, lawyers, police officers, military service members, etc. Do not use any family members or relatives as references!

RESERVISTS! You need to get one signed by your I&I or C.O.

  • Sign it and take this to your School Registrar. They will fill out the back of the form. Make sure they put your ACT and/ or SAT scores down and the date you took them. Takes 5 minutes. Make sure you get a copy of your transcripts too! We will need an additional Academic Certification Form to keep for our records, signed, but not filled out.
  •

100 Word Statement

  • A paragraph or two, on 1) Why you want to be a Marine Officer, 2) What it would do for you professionally, 3) what you hope to accomplish as an officer, and 4) why you feel you'd make a good officer. That should get you to 100 words.

  •     Everything else is self-explanatory. If you invest one day in getting it done, you will. Some take a couple days..some take a couple of months. As I stated earlier, it is YOUR application. So, do your best to get it back to us so we can ensure you are competitive enough come selection time. As always, you can call the office if you need any help.  There is no reason this application cannot be completed in 2 weeks or less.
